2226 AM (1534 BCE) – THE PROMISE

It had been many lunar cycles since Eliezer had originally left on his journey. Isaac knew, deep down, all would be well. But he had waited so long. The new moon festival was yet again upon them, and Isaac found himself wandering through his father’s fields idly.

In the distance, the dust of camels became apparent on the horizon. Could it be Eliezer? Or perhaps just another Ishmaelite caravan? It was too far away to say for sure.

As the camels neared, however, he recognized the swaying of Eliezer on the camel, side to side, as the animal navigated the sandy and rocky terrain. Soon, the caravan was upon Isaac, and he greeted Eliezer, who introduced Isaac to Rebekah.

Her veil was stunning. Isaac’s face flushed red, as the sight of just her eyes was captivating. So beautiful—she had the eyes of his mother, Sarah.

Isaac accompanied the caravan back to the Negev, where Abraham was elated when they arrived. They were formally given to each other that very night under Abraham’s canopy, to honor the memory of Sarah.

Isaac fell deeply in love with Rebekah, and Rebekah comforted Isaac. She filled the void that his mother, Sarah, had left. It would not be long before two nations were conceived in her, and soon laughter and the pitter-patter of little feet would once again fill the land with life and joy, with the birth of their twins, Jacob and Esau.
