3160 AM (600 BCE) – OBADIAH AND KING HADAD

The Hebrew prophet Obadiah approached King Hadad, of the surviving remnant of the Edomites, a descendant of Esau, the brother of Jacob.

Hadad looked at Obadiah. “Who is this? Should I be visited by every Hebrew vagabond in the land?”

Obadiah stopped. The arduous and lengthy journey had long since worn his face free of expression. Covered in dust, he lifted his hand and pointed at the king. “You say in your heart that you live in the clefts of the rock, that your palaces and cities are fortified beyond conquest. You also boast about who might bring you down from the heavens, as you have made your home with the eagles. I tell you this: even if you made your home among the stars, Adonai Tzva’ot will bring you down and humble you, so that you will eat dust.”

A crowd began to gather around Obadiah, the king, and all the king’s men.

Obadiah raised both his arms to Adonai and shouted so that all could hear, “Are you greater than your brother Jacob? Have you forgotten your brother Israel? I have not, nor have I forgotten you, says Adonai. Your arrogance and wickedness will be judged. Your treatment of Israel will be judged.”

Turning back to the king, Obadiah said in almost a whisper, “Wait and see, O great King Hadad, the proof of my words, as Judah is led away by King Nebuchadnezzar. Should Adonai send him here for you next? The Judge of Mount Zion will ascend Mount Esau, and your kingdom will become Adonai’s.”
