Prayer & Asking

A prayer guide is designed to help you develop a meaningful and biblically sound prayer life, using the foundational principles

Introduction & Instructions for Praying. For both those new to praying and seasoned believers.

Praying to Yehovah through Messiah Yeshua is a deeply personal and scripturally rooted practice that aligns with both Jewish and Messianic traditions. This prayer guide is designed to help you develop a meaningful and biblically sound prayer life, using the foundational principles found in the Torah, the Psalms, the Prophets, and the teachings of Yeshua.

The structure of this prayer follows a traditional biblical pattern, incorporating praise, thanksgiving, repentance, personal petitions, intercession for others, and anticipation of Yehovah’s kingdom. These elements are drawn from key scriptures, including the Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4-5), The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13), and Messianic prophecies that speak of the coming kingdom.

Instructions & Recommendations for Prayer

  1. Find a Quiet Place – Set aside dedicated time to pray without distractions, as Yeshua often withdrew to pray alone (Mark 1:35).
  2. Use the Prayer as a Guide – While you can pray these exact words, feel free to personalize your prayer by adding your own words, thoughts, and petitions. The goal is to speak from your heart while remaining grounded in biblical truth.
  3. Pray with Intent & Faith – Approach Yehovah with sincerity, humility, and trust in His promises. As Hebrews 11:6 says, “Without faith it is impossible to please Him.”
  4. Incorporate Scripture into Prayer – The best way to pray according to Yehovah’s will is to use His Word. Meditate on key passages and let them shape your conversation with Him.
  5. Pray Daily & Consistently – Just as Yeshua and the disciples maintained a rhythm of daily prayer, establish a habit of speaking with Yehovah regularly (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
  6. End with Blessing & Expectation – Conclude your prayer by receiving Yehovah’s peace and looking forward to the fulfillment of His promises, including the return of Messiah Yeshua.

This prayer is a starting point to help you develop a deeper connection with Yehovah through Yeshua. Let it be a guide, but also allow the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) to lead you in prayer according to your personal needs and circumstances. Whether you are new to prayer or seeking to enrich your spiritual life, may these words draw you closer to the heart of Yehovah.

Here are twelve (12) wonderful prayers to bring into your daily life:

1. Start with the Lord’s Prayer (Tefilat HaAdon)

Yeshua taught His disciples how to pray in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4. This is a great foundation for prayer:

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come, Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”-(Matthew 6:9-13, NKJV)

This prayer aligns with Jewish prayers such as the Kaddish, which praises God’s name and anticipates the coming of His kingdom.

The phrase “Our Father” (Avinu) reflects the intimate relationship between Yehovah and His people (Isaiah 63:16, Malachi 2:10).

2. Pray Using the Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4-9)

This is the foundational declaration of faith in Judaism and is affirmed in the New Testament (Mark 12:29-31).

“Hear, O Israel: Yehovah our God, Yehovah is one!
You shall love Yehovah your God with all your heart,
with all your soul, and with all your strength.”
-(Deuteronomy 6:4-5)

You can start your prayer by acknowledging Yehovah’s oneness and sovereignty.

Ask Him to align your heart with His will and to fill you with love for Him and others.

3. Praise and Thanksgiving (Tehillah / Psalms)

The Psalms provide a model for worshipful prayer. Many Messianic believers use the Psalms to express their hearts to Yehovah.

Psalm 100:4 – “Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise.”
Psalm 103:1-5 – “Bless Yehovah, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name!”

Start your prayer by:

Thanking Yehovah for who He is and what He has done.
Praising Him for His faithfulness and mercy.

4. Repentance and Seeking Forgiveness

Repentance (Teshuvah) is a key part of prayer, as seen in the Tanakh and emphasized by Yeshua.

Psalm 51 – King David’s prayer of repentance.
Isaiah 1:18 – “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.”
1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us.”
You can Ask Yehovah for cleansing and forgiveness.
Acknowledge Yeshua as your atonement (Isaiah 53).
Seek renewal and the leading of the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit).

5. Petition and Intercession

The Scriptures encourage us to pray for our needs and for others.

1 Samuel 1:10-11 – Hannah’s prayer for a child.
Philippians 4:6 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication.”
James 5:16 – “Pray for one another.”

Practical steps:
Bring your personal needs before Yehovah.
Pray for Israel (Psalm 122:6), for others, and for the return of Messiah.
Ask for wisdom (James 1:5).

6. Pray for the Coming of the Kingdom (Messianic Hope)

Yeshua taught His disciples to pray for Yehovah’s kingdom to come, and this aligns with Jewish expectations of the Messianic Age.

Zechariah 14:9 – “And Yehovah shall be King over all the earth.”
Matthew 6:10 – “Your kingdom come, Your will be done.”
Revelation 22:20 – “Come, Lord Yeshua.”

You can:

Pray for the fulfillment of prophecy.

Ask Yehovah to prepare you and others for Yeshua’s return.

7. Close with a Blessing

Jewish prayers often end with a blessing, just as the Aaronic blessing is given in Numbers 6:24-26:

“Yehovah bless you and keep you;
Yehovah make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you;
Yehovah lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.”

You can pray this over yourself, your family, and others.

Praying to Yehovah through Messiah can be both structured and spontaneous. You can start with this summary of the above prayers:

·      The Lord’s Prayer (Yeshua’s model).

·      The Shema (Declaration of faith).

·      Psalms (Praise and thanksgiving).

·      Repentance (Turning back to Yehovah).

·      Petition and Intercession (Seeking His help).

·      Praying for the Kingdom (Messianic expectation).

·      Ending with a Blessing.

PRAYERS TO YEHOVAH THROUGH MESSIAH YESHUA

1. Acknowledging Yehovah’s Holiness & Sovereignty

“Avinu Malkeinu (Our Father, Our King), Yehovah Elohim, You alone are holy and sovereign!
You are the Eternal One, the Creator of the heavens and the earth. Your name is set apart, and Your glory fills all the earth.
As it is written:

‘Shema Yisrael, Yehovah Eloheinu, Yehovah Echad!’
(Hear, O Israel, Yehovah our God, Yehovah is One!)
(Deuteronomy 6:4)
Let Your name be glorified in my life, in Israel, and in all the nations. Let every heart turn to You and acknowledge that You alone are the true and living God.”

2. Praising and Thanking Yehovah

“Bless Yehovah, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name!

Bless Yehovah, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” (Psalm 103:1-2)

“I thank You, Yehovah, for Your mercy and lovingkindness.

You have given me life and breath, and You sustain me daily. Thank You for the beauty of creation, the gift of Your Torah, and the redemption You have provided through Messiah Yeshua.

I praise You because Your faithfulness never ends, and Your mercy is new every morning. You are my rock, my salvation, and my refuge in times of trouble. May my heart be continually filled with gratitude, and may my lips always declare Your goodness.”

3. Seeking Forgiveness and Cleansing (Teshuvah)

“Create in me a clean heart, O Elohim, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10)

“Yehovah, I come before You in humility, confessing my sins before You.

I have fallen short of Your glory and have not always walked in Your ways. I ask for Your forgiveness, just as You promised:

‘Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.’ (Isaiah 1:18)

Through the atonement of Messiah Yeshua, I am cleansed and made new. Thank You for the blood of the Lamb that was shed for my sins. Help me to walk in righteousness, to love as You love, and to seek justice and mercy in all I do.”

4. Bringing Personal Needs and Intercession Before Yehovah

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6)

“Yehovah, You are my Provider, my Healer, and my Deliverer.

I lay my needs before You today, trusting in Your perfect will. You know my heart and my struggles. I ask for wisdom, strength, and peace. Guide my steps according to Your word and teach me to trust You completely.

I lift up my family, my friends, and those who are in need. May Your presence comfort those who are hurting, and may Your healing touch those who are sick. I also pray for Israel—bring peace to Jerusalem, and open the eyes of Your people to recognize their Messiah.

‘Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May they prosper who love you.’ (Psalm 122:6)

Let Your salvation be known among the nations, and let Your Spirit awaken hearts to Your truth.”

5. Praying for the Coming of the Kingdom

“Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10)

“Yehovah, I long for the day when Your righteousness will fill the earth.

Let Your kingdom come, and let Your will be done. May Yeshua HaMashiach return soon to establish Your reign of peace and justice. Prepare my heart and the hearts of many for that day.

‘And Yehovah shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be—“Yehovah is one, and His name one.”’ (Zechariah 14:9)

Until that day, strengthen me to be a light in this world, to walk in love, and to boldly proclaim the good news of salvation through Messiah Yeshua.”

6. Closing with Blessing

“Yehovah bless you and keep you;

Yehovah make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you;

Yehovah lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

“I receive Your blessing, Yehovah, and I ask that You fill me with Your shalom.

May my life reflect Your goodness and love, and may I always walk in Your ways. I commit this prayer to You in the name of Yeshua HaMashiach, my Redeemer and King. Amen!”
